TOURISM
Clerk Laithe is situated just outside the village of Newton in Bowland some 7 miles from the Market Town of Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley.
Your hosts have lived locally for many years and both have much experience in catering and hospitality and together look to provide a complete service to visitors to the Forest of Bowland; which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The farmland adjacent to Clerk Laithe has been in the family since 1955 and is a dairy farm. Laithe is an Old Norse or Viking word for Barn. The barn, like many in the area, was converted to a family home in the year 2000.
Clerk Laithe Lodge was added in 2013 and was built to strict environmental standards for sustainable tourism. It provides 5 Superior En Suite Bedrooms and a varied Continental Style Breakfast or a Full English Breakfast is included in the tariff. An Evening Meal is optional. Vegetarian and Vegan Menu choices are available. A warm welcome is assured.
The patio and garden area gives views over the Hodder Valley and the Bowland Fells with abundant wildlife always in sight with many bird species and wild deer in the close woodlands.
The River Hodder is nearby and there are footpaths for walking in the Hodder Valley and on the Bowland Fells.
Cycle routes pass the Lodge and are suitable for all abilities.
Because of the location of the Lodge there is very little light pollution. This makes it ideal for Star Gazing and facilities for that are available for residents on request.
A few miles away there is Fishing at Stocks Reservoir and permits can be arranged.
There are many places of interest to see and visit in this part of the country.
